I recently discovered a free, no-strings-attached website that helps me to never forget important birthdays. How many more times do you have to forget a key client’s or family member’s birthday before you take a concrete step to prevent this from happening again? This birthday reminder website is easy-to-use and absolutely free.
To start with, you simply go to the website and input the birthdays of friends, family members, and business acquaintances that you already know. The site defaults to sending you an e-mail reminder exactly 1 week before the person’s birthday, and it sends another e-mail on the person’s actual birthday. You have the option to change the days that the reminders are sent, but the default dates are set up so that you have the opportunity to send a traditional paper card (1 week out), and then have the option to call or send a free e-card (directly from the reminder website) on the person’s actual birthday. As an alternative, you can choose to have your reminders sent to your mobile phone as a text message if you prefer.
What about important people whose birthdays I don’t know? The website has a “Birthday Requester” feature that automatically contacts friends & family by e-mail to request their birthday. You simply have to provide their e-mail address and the site sends the request or multiple requests for you. You can type in individual e-mail addresses, or you can actually import e-mail addresses from your address book.
Additionally, the e-mail request is set up in such a way that someone can reply with their birthday information, but omit the year. Let’s face it, many people prefer not to share their age, so this feature allows someone to get recognized on their birthday without volunteering their age.
Why use this for business? Recognizing people on their birthday is a great way to further develop business relationships. In their book, Nurturing Customer Relationships, Jim Cecil and Eric Rabinowitz specifically encourage their readers to use e-mail or traditional mail to send birthday greetings to key prospects and existing customers.
